Honestly, I tried that game because my brother a a couple friends are into it, however, it is easily one of the worst $15 per month MMO ever... I will rank it above most FREE MMOs, however, I couldn't get myself to play it anymore after 3 weeks.

I believe the reason was due to the fact that I'm more of a `journey` instead of the `end` kind of guy. And let me tell you, the whole looking up a guide online such that I can spend many a boring hours trying to get a max level character the a horrible, horrible game architecture. Not mentioning the game content *swallowing the vomit now in my mouth* was dry and spoiled.

You guys need to branch to other MMOs if WoW is too addicting to you. It appeals to the masses (i.e. non-gamers/the elderly) not the intelligent. If you can write even a single line of code (in any OOP language or even a scripting language) then you should be more ashamed of your addition to WoW, then your alcoholic uncle who beats his wife.

Seriously:
WoW < WAR (Warhammer online)
WoW < EVE Online
WoW < Rumble Fighter (google it)
WoW < City of Heroes

Dare I even say:
WoW <= Warcraft III
WoW <= Starcraft

*sigh*

Ok, ranting complete. But you really do make me depressed. I thought higher of you guys...

I played it awhile back. In my defense, it was me and 3 other firends that all played together, and we knew each other ouside of WoW. eventually it got boring and we all left. only one of us still plays it, and he wouldn't take help if you offered it.
Horde for life, Tauren where it counts.

Quality =/= Addictiveness. Tetris and solitaire are both addicting - and have a huge fan base. It appeals to all generations - that generally means it's addicting. Fun is generally very specific to age. For example what a 5year old finds fun, and an 18 year old, and a 65 year old are probably VERY different. However, they can all become addicted to...say crack.

WoW may not be that great (Wouldn't know, never played it) but it definitely is addicting which what the poll is asking. You know it is when south park makes a parody of it >.>.

Yes. /Agree. 100%. Never played Wow for 2 reasons: 1. I dont wanna pay 15/MO. 2. It is addicting as hell. I would ruin my life if I played it. SOMEHOW Im keeping my straight A's even with WC3, with Wow no chance.

BTW on a side note Ive been lookin at EVE Online for a while cuz it looks really cool but again I dont feel like paying that much...

You're going to gaming hell for saying that Tetris is not a quality game. Simplicity =/= Poor Quality. In addition, Solitaire was a high quality game when it was created, and from my understanding, is merely addictive to those who grew up with decks of cards and not computers (and is generally only played at work, or on a machine that has no other games).

Anyways, Tetris is one of the greatest games of all times due to its simplicity and strategy. One of my main arguments against WoW is that there is nothing about the game that can be pointed out as great or original. Everything it does is taken from another game (or even the news). However, none of these copied aspects are improved upon!

EVE Online sets itself apart from other games with it's realistic player-base market system, real-time experience/skill point system, and death system. The only area that I could agree is lacking is its PvP. However, due to their 2nd to last expansion (with the militia and all), experienced player have great PvP opportunity.

WAR sets itself apart with its RvR and PvP orientation. Now the game is still very young, but the ability to go in, attack a city, and actually open unique content for a day or two is a fabulous implementation. I mean there are other things that could define it, like its SO over the top comedy. But I'm not going to continue playing a game for $15 a month for a laugh or two a day. It's the gameplay.

That's what makes Tetris SO amazing. A perfectly understandable and balance gameplay system.

All that WoW had/has is the fact that it was created by a company that had a few very successful games (Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo) and thereby had a lot of advertising. That's it. Because you can't define the game in ANY positive light (and don't anyone say "graphics" because not only does graphical quality not matter, in so far as it is accurate and non-buggy, but a trillion other games, including EVE, have FAR better graphics). Even my friends who still play it really got back into it because of the expansion, which they already bitch about because the Death Knight (or whatever the new auto 40 level class is called) is so over the top imbalanced...

Of course Quality =/= Adictiveness. If the quality part of the game isn't the part that you like then it isn't addictive. i.e. If you don't care about realistic markets, death that actually matters, or enjoy grinding, than EVE probably isn't for you, because those are the game's high quality components that make it unique.

However:
Quality Gameplay == Adictiveness
Again, if the "Quality Gameplay" is a sort of gameplay you don't care for, than it's not going to be addictive for you. But WoW has NO QUALITY GAMEPLAY, and therefore, should only be addictive to (1)those who do not know about other alternatives [ignorant people], (2)those who are afraid to move on or try new things[cowardly or close minded people], and/or (3)those who are to stupid to know the difference [dumb people].

Most WoW players above the age of 30 fall into category (1). However, you guys do not, leaving (2) and (3). Many of the posts talk about new games and the whole internet society. Many of you even try them... which would only leave option (3)...

Actually, I think alot of the "over 30" demographic also falls into category 3.

I've played WoW, and it's ok. I just don't like games that are based on grinding, which is what WoW is. I have never understood how people actually enjoyed the grinding.

It's a good thing nowhere in my post do I say Simplicity=Poor Quality, nor do I say Tetris is not a quality game - though I can see where you got that impression.

You can still have quality gameplay, but just not be addicted to it....Most games that you go through once, but have little replayability can be great quality...but not addictive. Most RPG games are under this category. Once you get the story line, and do all the side quests you're done.

I also think that you're exaggerating the "NO QUALITY GAMEPLAY" - thought it might not be the BEST game out there - like you said yourself, it takes a bunch of stuff from other games and puts it together, even if none of it is really improved upon. Even if this is true - they still take the BEST of other games and put it into one game. Originality =/= Quality.

Also - you forget to mention people who just HAVE high level characters, and even if they KNOW of other (possibly better) MMORPG's they just don't want to go through the grinding again. They already know and understand the spells, game interface and stuff involved with WoW. They also have friends online. Moving to another game makes them have to grind and learn everything about new MMORPGS, get new friends etc. Why would they do that when they already have a DECENT game where they don't have to do any of that...Now you might group these people into category 2 - however, it's more the simplicity of just sticking with WoW.

Also - for number 3 - they might think WoW is better because...well it's an opinion. People are allowed to have different opinions. Although it might not have any tangible thing that seperates it from other MMORPG's or makes it better - they just LIKE it better.

Also note: I'm just arguing for the sake of argument nor have I ever played WoW Smile

yes, its addictive. most MMO's are.

it has a good 'addictiveness' level because
-expansiveness...there's always something to do, like completing EACH QUEST is virtually impossible because theres so much
-terrain... theres a gigantic warcraft world
-friends... its easy to find a friend in real life who also plays WoW.
-skills and such... it has techtrees, so theres a customization feel to it that makes you feel unique.
-theres always something going on on the other side of the world, e.g. when you're in ironforge theres some person all the way in ogrimmar.
-(12ish) classes with 3 techtrees with 80 levels, two sides of the world with almost limitless quests and skillbuilds...

basically there is always something to do, some kind of unsolved mystery, something to find, that drives you on. and if all else fails, you cannot withdraw your $15, so ya might as well play it for the rest of the month.

i once played at my friend's house as a rogue twink. it was pretty cool. Smile

Heeellllllll no. Most boring RPG I've ever played in my life. Quests are completely generic, (go here, deliver this, kill this), and maybe every 100 quests or so you'll find a unique one. I'll also copy my message from wc3edit.net, since I'm too lazy to re-write it.

Here:

My Top Ten Most Hated Games for All Systems
1. World of Warcraft, on the PC. Yes, that's right, my number one most hated game is WoW. It is beyond boring, as well as almost 100% of the players are complete idiots, and the alliance are all three year olds that think looking cool is the best thing. The Horde is better, but not by much, because they're just dumb, and they don't know how to play, but if I were to pick one side, it would definitely be the Horde. I also just recently tested the differences between the Horde, and the Alliance. I played a Troll, and then a Night Elf. I found this to be extremely rigged for the Alliance, as well as some of the other races, as they had much easier time doing quests, (as well as they were actually ones that gave you some loot, darn them!), and killing stuff seemed to be generally much easier. For the Troll, it was the complete opposite.

you cant make assumptions with that kind of reasoning...

if 10% (its actually less than this though) of america is gay, does it mean that one of any 10 people on the forum is gay? (not including jay.j Razz)

no, it does not.

just because someone plays WoW does not mean they are fat mindless idiots

someone could say that all Jassers, vJassers, and map editors are smart, another could say that people smart enough to do that are geeks, and that geeks are pimple-ridden tech-freaks with no life.

so lets not do that okay? :/

Yes, WoW is VERY addicting... sometimes a bit too much. When its that good and it has a $15 a month fee, you have to balance WoW (virtual fun) with real life-- including your social life, homework, the fee, etc.

i mean you could stack your room with food, drinks, and some AC and you could play for a day without noticing too much...

but say, games like halo, warcraft, and some others that i've played are fun enough (where you can get 'into' the game) without totally getting absorbed into it.

WoW is like a black hole, it sucks you in and you can't get out... as long as you can keep up with the fee and be able to do your homework first its fine.
