English Correcting Thread

I just realized that I am incredibly bored at the moment and that stems from having next to nothing to do... I'm sure it won't last. However, if it does last, then I shall require something to keep me... entertained isn't quite the right word but it's the first that comes to mind. Therefore, if anyone has questions on almost anything English related (papers, spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.), then I offer my services free of charge in correcting/critiquing. Yep. That's how bored I am.

The curriculum is supposed to help one build many skills, such as logical thinking, analytical thinking, creative thinking, punctuality, commitment, teamwork as well as many other aspects that can prepare people for the future in the real world. The board does this by making certain courses for student’s mandatory as well as implementing curriculum that helps foster these skills.
An example of this is math. Math is mandatory until grade 11. Anyone can do well with most jobs with a simple grade 6 math education. What more do you need in society than being able to budget, do some simple math for shopping and taxes? Why then must we take it? The purpose is to build logical skills in children so that they can then build rational skills, and then make rational decisions in the real world. However this is not what happens in reality. As a student, I know this personally, as well as from observing other students. Instead of learning the rationality skills for math, we end up learning how to continuously do the same set of problems over and over again. We end up doing hundreds of questions for homework, so when the problem comes on the test we already know how to do it, because we already have done it several times. If you ask almost any math teacher, you’ll see that the highest marks don’t go to the “smartest” people, or those who are naturally good at math, but rather to those who do their homework on a frequent basis.
Now I ask you, if the purpose of math is not accomplished, but some other purpose – how does that prepare the student for life? One could argue that math then teaches one to be prepared and to keep on trying. However it’s very hard to argue those who learn it naturally faster will ever be less prepared than those who do not learn it as quickly. However, who gets the higher mark? Who will be more likely to get into the better university – and therefore a “better career”?

English – essay isn’t used @ all, but skills learned from essay

School limits the flow of job availability. System to control the number of people, same job you could have gotten 20years ago with a high school diploma now takes an undergraduate because of “supply and demand” the amount of stuff learned however is not needed. School is just to show you can put effort. You can work at nothing, so you can get something you want. You get what you want indirectly, not directly. Why not cut out the middle man?

** I don't think your second "that" was needed and it slowed down the flow of the rant.
*** Where do you draw this conclusion from? Evidence or a quote would be helpful to discern your verity.
*4 Removed another "that" which I deemed to be unnecessary. I think the sentence is still grammatically correct, but not entirely sure. However, I feel it flows better.
*5 The word students was needed as opposed to student's. The latter implies that something is owned by a single student, however, such is clearly not the case in that sentence.
*6 I edited your list so that it was more easily identifiable as such. I added to do in front of everything so that it is uniform throughout and, thus, in my opinion, flows better.
*7 I thought I had something for that but I guess not... oh well.
*8 I didn't quite know what to do with this part. It's not bad, just somewhat rambling and loses its argumentative feeling in favor of pathos and rhetorical questions. Open endedness when attempting to prove a point, especially in this subject, may not be the best path to take.

No problem, like I said I was just pissed off at school and wrote a rant...which is why it gets worse towards the end (Just asking a bunch of questions and such) and just has ideas that aren't developed. No real rebuttles, as I'm not sure I believe in what I wrote 2 years ago...though it is interesting to see my own perspective from 2 years ago again. . Also, I may just finish it should I have absolutely nothing to do and am in a writing mood one day.

Anywho, thanks for looking it over, and I'm glad I could help cure your boredum, if only for a short while.

I rarely cause anyone here any trouble. I don't go around insulting people who request maps to be hacked. The rules are getting stricter.

About insulting people who want maps to be requested...I haven't done any requests for what, before the new rules were posted? I haven't

About Dekars post, some websites block certain regions, and it isn't always the region doing the blocking. For instance, I was once looking for a better video service than YouTube, and found one hosted in Germany. But, it blocked me because they allow porn and the German porn laws allow 17 year olds, whereas America requires them to be 18.

How am I doing? I am great lol, I went out golfing with a couple of my friends and hit 2 over par in 18. Then went to some Buffalo Wild Wings and watched some good fights from the UFC. I believe Matt Hughes will be retiring, but am not 100% positive. He mentioned something about it after the St. Pierre fight, but came back as the main event tonite.
