| Last night when I disappeared from the vent and our game, I went to let the dogs out. It had been raining here for many days, and the ground was exceptionally soft. They bulldozed the fence right out of the ground and took off, I chased them but they ran right out into the street and one of them got hit. The bang was so loud that all of my neighbors came outside to see what was going on, and then helped me block traffic while we checked for spine injuries to see if we could move him. The damn cars didn't even slow down with 8 people and a dog in the street, they just moved over a little bit and barely missed hitting us. It took over an hour for the vet to become available, but during that time he seemed to improve. His breathing was labored and he seemed to be in pain, but he got up and walked around and had no broken bones. When the vet was finally able to see him, he walked over to her and then collapsed. I thought he was just tired from his injuries, but he stopped breathing and his heart stopped right afterwords. She gave him multiple shots of stimulants to try and get his heart going again, and started CPR, but to no avail. I lost my baby puppy who just turned 1 year old, and who we had almost finished training to both hand signs and verbal commands.
The vet explained his injuries afterwords, the car impact had probably caused a punctured lung and/or minor internal bleeding, (hence the pain and labored breathing) but was not fatal. He most likely would have made a full recovery with maybe a minor surgery to stop any bleeding. But, when the car hit him and he slid on the asphalt, it caused deep bruising/road burns. Those bruises caused a blood clot to form, and when he walked over to the vet, the clot disloged and proceeded to his lungs where it got stuck. (Which is why his breathing stopped before his heart.) We were able to wake him up for the last few seconds, but he couldn't breath and his heart was stopped, so that was probably horrible for him. The vet said that even with his bruising the way the clot hit was at least 1/1000000 and she will probably never see anything like it again. There is basically nothing anyone can do when a blood clot hits.
Fake newspaper headline that keeps going through my head > "Dog gets hit by car and lives without medical attention, but dies from bruise in vets arms."
As I pet him in his last few seconds, I could feel the moment he died because his fur stopped being soft.
P.S. I'm also going out of town until Sunday afternoon, so I'll see you all then.

| Im like the biggest animal lover ever, I have gotten into physical combat over watching people i dont even know hit there animals or mis treat them. I feel for you incredibly in this situation and I wish I could help you in some way. My heart goes to your poor dog, I hope you catch those bastards who did that.
**Edit** I moved this out of the Garbage can to the General Chat, My hope is that you will return and see much support here for you, I do not want to see this thread accidentally deleted in the garbage can.

| seeing your pet get hit is one of the saddest things, next to having them run away and never be seen again.

| Everyone loved this dog, Mom even took him to work sometimes. All of our friends and the people at Mom's work are making a memorial and taking up a collection to donate to the animal shelter in his name. I'm surprised so many people care, I have gotten lots of calls from friends and family already.
P.S. This isn't really MM&M related, so the Garbage Can is probably the only place for it. Off-topic goes in the can.

| This is Community related, so it goes in general chat, this isn't random crap, so it doesn't go into the can. I have had my dog for around 7 or 9 years or so, and I can't even imagine something like this happening, all of my pets have gone missing, or i haven't been there when they passed. I'm not going to say "I know how you feel" because I don't, I can only imagine the sadness, and I expect its big. I can say that you'll be alright, time heals all wounds, right? | |

| It gets better, but the wounds never quite heal. I still miss my last dog who died just before we got this one. (That wasn't so bad though, since she was 16 and had a good life.) It never quite heals, but you move on. It's just sad to lose such a young animal. He wasn't even finished maturing yet, and we had worked so hard for the last year to train him. I lost the animal that I love and a year of work wasted just because some asshole didn't bother to stop and wait for 10 seconds while I caught up and brought my dogs back. (On that note, the other dog is fine, but we don't care about her and she is 15 anyway. We wouldn't have minded if her old decrepit stupid self got killed, she had a good long life anyway and we don't like her. She is the one that tore down the fence too.)
I'm packing to leave, so I probably won't reply again until Sunday.

| I was looking at the logistics of the hit today now that it is daylight, and I figured out that the car hit him in the oncoming lane. They actually left their lane in order to aim at him. The neighbor thinks I should talk to the newspaper for a "speak out" type article, but I don't feel like it even if I thought it would do any good. (And I don't. People and animals have been dying on that street for like 20 years, and no one has bothered to do anything about it yet.)
*I am really really leaving times time, walking out the door when I finish typing. Be back Sunday.*

| Yeah, I agree, but I can't just keep blaming myself after the fact.
In other news, I am feeling somewhat better now. I had a good weekend at camp to help get my mind off of it, and I got elected Second Vice Chief in my OA Chapter.

@diaster: While I do enjoy archery, no I am not taking it up as a major hobby. The Order of the Arrow is a secretive Native American based organization within Boy Scouts. Just google it.

| i would stop.. its not always the drivers fault you know.. grantid i do believe in this situation if probably was.. he still should have stopped out of generosity instead of drive off like an asshole...
i guarantee if someone hits a person they stop and help him/her... they dont just drive away unless they are heartless..
same should go with animals... |
