PostSubject: State of the Game - Moving Forward (8/21/08)   State of the Game - Moving Forward (8/21/08) EmptyFri Aug 22, 2008 12:20 am

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has helped with MM&M over the past month while Pythagoras and Myself have been in control of the map. I can honestly say that MM&M has progressed by leaps and bounds over the past month, farther then I'm sure many people thought it would. A month ago MM&M was a mystery in that no one was sure if it would continue to attract new players, if it would get old and lose long time veterans, if people just would simply lose interest. None of these have been the case, The forums are growing both in member size and activity thanks in many parts to the moderators who keep this place clean and organized. The Clan Channel on Bnet thrives under Diaster and his Shamans and I see new players logging into my bot database on a daily basis. MM&M is progressing rapidly and the players are noticing.

That being said I feel that a Code Reset needs to happen as a priority very soon. Not to long ago I agreed that the Code Reset would happen with the introduction of Nature element. This may not happen any more Im sorry to say. Balancing has become a huge issue lately, with literally dozens of spell re-writes, new content, unit changes, tower changes, questing changes, PvP changes and now in the next release a complete re-haul of the Team Base terrains. All of this adds up to Instability. Throwing in a additional 10 spells, 8 Multi books and 4 Gear Pieces while all of this is currently going on could have extremely bad consequences as far as credibility and fun is concerned. Nature Element has not been canceled, i do not want anyone to think that. I want to see it happen just as much as everyone else however I want to go about it the right way.

Now I mentioned Terrain Changes. This is a huge Deal. The new Terrain changes being considered will bring in many aspects of the game for consideration. Below is a Compiled list of the things that Pythagoras and Myself will be looking to accomplish with the new terrain changes :

Back Dooring
Free Potions
PvP Questing
Elemental gear
Defensive Strategies
Base Vision

The changes that will be made will greatly effect the game play of MM&M in all Modes. It will emphasize a Questing structure that will be very PvP related and not the same as the current kill a player quest that is in the Middle area in 7.13b although that will stay there for the for see able future. The questing structure will not be the Boss's that have been discussed in great length lately, I want everyone to know that Boss's will be a strictly RPG element of the game.
Terrain Changes are not open to the public for discussion and are to be considered top secret until the first test version is completely ready. Just because the Terrain is not open for discussion does not mean the actual questing that will be done in the area is not open for discussion. Any thoughts that anyone has on types of quests and rewards that you could logically see in the AOS war would be greatly appreciated. Rewards could be anything and I do not limit that to items, gold, experience and skill points. Keep it within reason and try to balance your submissions.

As some of you may have noticed I have taken over the Balance and Bug sections of the Forum. I find it much easier if I personally keep it clean since I know what is being taken care of before anyone else. I keep all threads active in the Archives in case anyone wants to Search for information. For this reason I ask that please everyone who post any issues relating to Bugs or Balances please put a Version header In the Topic you create. Since future readers of this forum will be searching our back logs it is vital we keep it organized so new players can get what they need quickly. You do not need to do this anywhere else except for in the Bugs and Balance Sections.

So that is everything involving the map and its near future that anyone would want to know about. Since these State of The games are not Just about the Game but also about giving you the player an insight to the Map Makers and a direct link to the map through them I thought I should address how we the Map Makers are doing. Pythagoras and I are doing extremely well, Id dare call Pythagoras a friend that I would hang out with had I the opportunity. It is a strange twist of fate that you meet someone online that you actually truly like, most people you meet online are distant avatars or walls of text that you create your own opinion on what that person is like. In working closely with Pythagoras I find he's alot like I was when I was his age, and therefor a likable person =) That being said I do not for see myself or Pythagoras giving this map up anytime soon. We work well together so far, he teaches me the inner workings of Jass and how to apply them to the Game and I handle mundane things that I know he is not interested in and in general balance issues that I may be more experienced to handle. When I get home from work he usually is on MSN ready to talk to me about what were going to do today, I can honestly say during the work day I actually look forward to coming home.

Well thats about it for this edition of "State Of The Game" Pythagoras and I hope you Enjoy 7.13b, its a huge edition change that should keep everyone busy for a little bit. Please don't forget to report anything you may find.

It greatly pleases me that you actually enjoy "working" on the map. For most people, making a map is work, but you seem to enjoy that and/or the camaraderie with Pythagoras. Like I always say, it is more important to not let the project die than it is to make quick progress. As long as your having fun, that is the best part. I'll be here bitching and moaning* over every little thing as long as your still here making everything work. Thanks again Rhys and Pythagoras.

P.S. Do you prefer Rhys, or rhys? I noticed lately that you dropped the capital, and I always try to respect the capital letters in people's names.

*You know, in that good and helpful way. Right?

High-Five to the map advancing. I'm glad there will be a code reset soon. I think it's pretty damn needed, though I do think there should be a few more M-spells (3-5) released before the code reset. That way people atleast have new mages to work on, instead of making the same mage again. Smile.

there are actual 2 mspells that have been produced already, we simply have not tested them yet to establish if we want them or not. we don't even know if there bugged or glitched, but you can rest assured that we no longer are in the lets think of a spell phase more so we are in the lets not release these spells to quickly phase and solve the issues before there put in.

That's good. Taking it nice and slow and testing and thinking before implementing...Kind of the opposite of SinisteRing Razz. What are you thinking for time frame of a code reset? 2 weeks? Another month?

I'm for the next version introducing 2 M-spells, and then a code reset after that. Waddya think Jay? (Of course Rhys has final say, but that is roughly what I feel would be good timing.)

The point of that, is to find the balance between doing it soon, and having more M-spells out. More M-spells before reset means more mage variety next version, but a sooner reset means your able to introduce big changes sooner, and not feel so constrained.

Like I said before 3-5 before code reset is good. Otherwise all the "Veterans" will just be making the same new mage come code reset because they've tried everything else.

Major changes should be 2 versions before a code reset. The first to make sure it's worth it and not abusable, and if it is it doesn't matter since codes will be reset anyway. Then the next version is to fix up the major changes balance wise. Then go on with a code reset because it needs to be tested for the whole game.

The other thing I strongly suggest before the code reset is the amount of exp needed to level up be reduced.

exp has been addressed for -an and -anns games, I am leaving -nm games alone as far as exp and gold are concerned. That mode allows you to level up over a few games and the main reason to play it is the accomplished feeling you get from having a max mage.

It should be scaled though. Make low levels easier to level and high levels harder to level. The game doesn't spread because new mages take forever to be in the least bit useful. And when everyone else is 62 they don't want to stay.

hmmm well before I say anything for or against the new rates 1 thing comes to mind. with the old -an normally by the end you were at the same level you would be if you were in a large 62 game. With this new rate an might become a fast and very easy way to get a maxed 62 mage, though I'm not sure if that is a good or a bad thing.
