PostSubject: State of the Game - Progressing (6/23/08)   State of the Game - Progressing (6/23/08) EmptyMon Jun 23, 2008 11:23 pm

We're heading further and further into the future of the map, and I have some news that you all might like to know. Where the map is going is getting there slow, but we're getting there. Beta is not right around the corner as expected, and the projected date of when we'll get there seems pretty far, but it's well worth the wait I hope. Also, there will be some information about some of the spells in the game being changed and some M-Spell info included. Hopefully, this will give you a better understanding of what I've been up to and how well my life and the game is progressing as of now.

We'll start off with some good news. Azmund showed me this great map, "Battle for Maelaru" by Burning Rose. I am unsure of who this person is, but the map seemed great and I fully support it. I've made a few interesting offers to the creator of the map and hopefully I can help the map progress for a distraction while Mages Magic & Mayhem still begins to sprout. I'm sure that some of you are like "Hm... this is kind of going slow... what should I do in the meantime?" Well, Battle for Maelaru is extremely unique and I hope that many of you will take interest and start hosting and playing it.

Now to get on topic, I'd like to start actually talking about MM&M. At first glance, it looked like we were going into beta really soon - that it was just around the corner and that we'd be able to see all the new features planned fairly soon. This is not the case. Even after having spent so much time on the map, I still am fairly oblivious to about half the map and that means that new additions are already extremely hard for me. The M-Spells don't even follow the same format as the rest of the spells! Either way, I realize that many more issues are at hand that should be fixed before going for a stable beta version.

For example, Icy Orb sometimes glitching and not firing bolts is an extremely huge problem in my opinion and must be fixed before going into beta. But there's a problem - I am simply not skilled enough to make a successful re-write of the spell. I attempted before and failed. I will be making another attempt soon in the future, but it will be done in Alpha if it's the last thing I do!

Beta is probably going to come around sometime in November or something if we're going this slow. We truly are. The sheer amount of things that need to be added is far too much to hop into right now. I know I could just sit here, call it beta, and move on, but I do not wish for such a weight to be dropped right now. We're going to wait a while before jumping the gun.

What I have planned for 7.11 is a whole bunch of spell remakes for those spells that people complain are 100% useless. Raise Dead is on the top of the list. The remade editions of these spells are going to be help top secret in my mind until release, but expect... *Checks notes*... 3 remade spells for 7.11. Also, I plan on removing some of the little twitchy things about the scoreboard in 7.11, possibly making it set up for the Healing Done and Damage Taken parts which will probably come around before 7.15. Until then, the "format" of the board will stay the same; Player Name, Damage Done, Deaths. Simple.

Either way, 7.11 should probably also be the correction for any bugs found in 7.10a unless it is purely gamebreaking. I am going to attempt to start steering away from releasing unstable versions and form a testing group for the map before release. I did that for 7.10a, but it didn't work as well as I thought... and got off-topic and seemed unorganized the entire time. The fact that B.Net now hates me and I can no longer host on B.Net for some reason is getting on my nerves, and I'm aching my muscles trying to get it fixed. LC is serving no better purpose.

Also, the time I have on my computer may be getting a serious nerf (yes, harder than the nerf to Fissure in 7.10a). According to my schools website, I have failed 2 classes - 1 was because my parents made me go absent on an extremely important day, which they understand, and the other was from failing a project which I purely didn't agree with. I let some people know about this situation at the time.

According to my dad, I will apparently only have 5 days available to me each week to use my computer. I'll most likely be on only during weekdays since my neighbors come over on weekends, and I tend to actually have a hint of a true "life" (if that's what you want to call it) when I'm around them.

Some new info for my inspirations for new M-Spells - they're coming from different games mostly... but one in particular. I'm not going to release the name of the game because it's extremely down-low on the scale of "I KNOW THAT GAME" factor, is on the Nintendo GameCube, and simply because I'm going to have fun with it. Whoever gets the name of the game will get my utmost respect as it is an extremely hard game to guess. What I don't want is people sending me a page with a list of GameCube games from A-Z on it and asking me if it's one of them... and demanding an E-Cookie. Not going to cut it.

Whoever guesses the game that I'm getting my inspiration for new spells from gets an E-Cookie from me. Good reward, right? Not going out-there on rewards because I'm starting to be careful with power. Hopefully, voices of reason will be more listened to in the future by myself and the game will improve from the logic they hold. Jay.J is my primary source here. -.-

Anyways, thanks for reading... it was kind of a lame State of the Game, but I tried pushing it out and put my current mood into it. I guess I just click the Send button and -

You should tell your dad about this game, what your doing, the community you have following you, and the determination you have to make the game good. Any normal human being would be proud and allow you to continue this even though something as shallow as your school grades may be dipping.

I'll also volunteer what time I have for testing. It's good to have a road map for how the map is progressing so thanks for the address Sin!
