| I'm bored. I want to work on another map, but I'm not sure what to do. Give me some suggestions. | |

| I've been itching to start doing some programming again. Can't think of anything that I'd actually finish at the moment though.
Make an AoS based on my SSCCD (status effect, spell cooldown and casting, damage) system. Do it.

| Wait until Starcraft 2 comes out. Until then, the forum goes into hiatus until we find a common goal. | |

| Why would I waste my money on SC2? WC3 will always be superior.
But yeah, finish any map and I'll play it. You have at least 5-10 solid map ideas out there that you could work on. Same goes for you Pythagoras.

| How does True Combat sound to start up again?
However, if I were to start it again, I'd want someone who knew how to terrain and could code how the players interact with the terrain.

It won't be superior when you have nobody left to play with you, It's an opportunity to "meet" new people ya know. Sometimes new friends are better than old ones, especially if the old ones are bad to begin with.

I know right? It's part of my new shtick. I'm doing some stand up at my local comedy bar. - Jay.J wrote:

But...you can meet new people on SC2 as well. @Sin: Aren't you supposed to be good at both terraining and coding :\

| Lol, good point. Shouldn't you need someone to do everything else BESIDES terrain and code Sin? | |

| I only asked for a terrainist... nothing else. I don't get where you're getting "terrain and code" from. I am decent at terraining, but prefer to do something else. I actually got someone to do the terrain, but didn't like it that much. I should upload the map after I finish making my new hero. | |

| That's a minor part of the game. Terrain isn't just placing tiles of different textures all over the place and making different heights, ramps, and trees in random spots. They need to be fluid and interact with a player through the code itself.
Besides, I think Pyth is willing to make a terrain randomization system for me. His math > mine.

| Here's the prelim idea that I had for randomization:
First the function would randomly develop a tree of "path" structs that all connect to at least one other path struct. This will be form a basic network of intersecting arcs. These path structures would be defined by some function (probably linear at first, but curves would be possible as well) using the wc3 xy plane. Using these functional paths and the distance formula, I'll be able to populate the area with doodads using probabilities based on the minimum distance of a given random point from all nearby paths. This will, basically, make areas that are farther away from the paths more forested. Optimization of the algorithm would be possible by a few pruning methods, but overall the process of a small map randomization would probably take between 1-10 seconds.
This should be fairly challenging, I'm excited. I might start it on Wednesday if I start my workout early enough.

| This is my first version, it took me about 2 hours. It speaks for itself. The math is pretty complicated but if you want to look at the code, feel free. DownloadEdit: This isn't just for Sinister, any interested parties can feel free to check out how randomized terrain is really done. I'll add more documentation and features later so it's easier to use. | |
