Dream Theater's new album is about to come out (June 23). They went heavier on this one it seems... And they got a new music video, it's pretty sick.

It's good, but it feels toned down from some of their previous work. The drum pattern except for the in the shredding part sounds relatively simplistic (although this is Mike Portnoy so "simple" for him is face-melting for me). Additionally, the bass really didn't do much except for carry the low rhythm. I don't know if I'd call it "heavier," but it was different. Sounds like they may be trying to draw more people who don't know what the awesomeness of Dream Theater is into the fold so to speak.

I actually thought someone was going to make a comment like this, but yes. I think that they toned down the complexity to appeal to more people. I didn't mean just this song for the heavier styled music, you can listen to the other one... A Nightmare to Remember. Maybe not heavier, but a darker feeling it seems. Anyways, the new video is good, complex doesn't mean it's put together well, and simple doesn't mean it's not good. I thought it was badass.
