| At first I didn't plan on even getting much less making the transfer to Starcraft II. However, upon current investications about the game as well as the released information for the Starcraft World Editor ( or whatever they're going to call it ), I have decided that I am going to make the change assuming the game is not too costly. ( If it releases for more than $59.99, than I won't get it. Even if it falls in the $49.99 range I'll have to think about it. )
So I was just wondering who was planning on going to SCII and if you would stay with WC3 at all if you did?

| No neither option?
I don't like Starcraft. Warcraft 3 will be dead when Starcraft 2 is released.
Thus: Warcraft 4. | |

| Well, OK, I'll through a neither option in there.
However, if they start a WC4 after the release of SCII ( and that release happens this year ), then WC4 won't be released until 2015 at the earliest! ( Starcraft II began development in 2003, after the release of WC3, and it's been 6 years ... )

| WC4 is probably already in development. In fact, it's been confirmed IIRC that it has started developing as of like last year. So, I think we are looking at something like 2012 for WC4.
In any case, I have no interest in Starcraft. If everyone leaves WC3, I'll consider getting SC2. But, I don't think WC3 is going to die. Assuming it's still alive, I will just stay here.

| I'm unsure....depends on how the rest of the WC3 players band wagon or not. If WC3 is alive, I'll stay, if not....I might consider band waggoning over and try both. Voted both, even though my vote really just depends on the WC3 community. | |

| Probably both, since i doubt SCII will have too many cool custom maps right away and i'm not very good with stradegy games (Exept Red Alert 2 and 3). I will probably just play through the main campain for the story. | |

If by "right away" you mean less than a week, then you're still wrong, lol. If you mean that there will probably be next to no good custom maps in under a week than you're probably right. However, there is as much hype going around about the Starcraft editor as there is about the actual game. I mean lets face it, the custom features of WC3 is what made the game last in the USA ( and probably everywhere else too ) and is a major selling point for the game.

| whether I go to SC or not depends on its editor. If the editor is the WC editor w/ just the SC models screw it, but if it is much better or has a better model selection I'll prolly join in. | |

Because models are much more important than actual gameplay. Instead of asking for stuff we can make ourselves, shouldn't we ask for stuff that, I don't know, Warcraft 3 didn't have? They'll only make as many models that is needed. They won't make an extra fifty models that the game never uses. You wnat those, you make them.

| He....doesn't want SC2 to be just WC3 with different models...He doesn't care about models. He says"If the editor is the WC editor w/ just the SC models screw it," and then...after reading the next sentence I'm confused..." but if it is much better or has a better model selection I'll prolly join in.". Which would contradict the first statement....Whatever. | |

| Nono, you're wrong, He meant that if it's just Warcraft 3, but with a Starcraft 2 interface, (sci-fi creatures, sci-fi icons, etc), that he doesn't really see any point. Then he says if it has a better model selection, meaning MORE models, and I think ones that are unused in the actual game, he would go with it. I think? | |

From what I have read, it will be far better, including functionality for libraries, greater access and control ( such as decreasing the level of an upgrade! *gasp* ), and other stuff. I even read somewhere that we will have full control of ALL data files in the game. I'm not 100% sure if that last part is true or not, nevertheless, the only thing that's going to hold the editor portion back is the lack of models, NOT the editor itself ( assuming of course that Blizzard is in fact telling the truth, which they don't from time to time ). However, SCII did have its own engine ( with no relation to WC3 ) created for it, which allows for this new level of control ( i.e. proper software design ). With the single model skill-based game's I like to make, it shouldn't hinder me at all. In fact, the added power should only increase what I can do with it ( including simple things like units being able to have Shields instead of just Life, and Mana ), which is why I expect to go to SCII assuming cost isn't over the top. EDIT: I found this, if it helps

| I was originally a Starcraft player, and I only bought Warcraft because a friend of mine who also played Starcraft showed it to me and told me to get it so we could play online. However, WC3 is much newer and has better graphics and map-making capabilities, obviously, so I eventually started to play WC3 more than SC and then stopped playing SC altogether, although I do play it sometimes during my media class (LAN games ftw). But when SC2 is released don't expect to see me on Wc3...like ever... | |

| The next game i intend to move to and spend a great amount of time on is Diablo 3. SC honestly is not even a blip on my radar.
However hopefully they go with the same file pathabilities so that we can upload wc3 models into SC. Personally I am not a fan of the futuristic space imagery and would prefer medieval as a time period for a platform to create games.

It's a new graphics engine, so no, you won't be able to directly port models.
