sleep paralysis? the condition where you can't move right after you wake up? No, but I've read about it, do hope you've gone to a doctor for it cause it could be indication of something wrong w/ ur head.

Uhh. Not really. Its pretty normal actually. And it was a fluke (Anyone can have one) considering my medical history. I don't have narcolepsy, or any panic disorder. (Which sleep paralysis is linked too). And sleeping in a weird position can cause it, stress, or weird sleeping habits. I don't think you know what you're talking about diaster, I'm completely aware of whats going on with my body.

And i'd say it was caused by a stressful week at school, and I had changed my sleeping schedule by at least four hours during that week also. And I'm pretty sure it lasted about 5 seconds. But It was a weird experience. o_O

Sounds nifty. Is it really doctor worthy though? It happened a few days ago? Anything since then happen? Maybe go to be safe....but I don't think it's THAT huge a deal, no?

Edit: You just posted as I posted XD

Its not THAT serious, it just what happens when your brain doesn't stop producing the paralytic that stops you from moving in your sleep once you wake up. Normally its the other way around and doesn't produce enough and is often the cause of sleep walking.

Edit: I suppose sleeping funny could cause it, if you put excess pressure on the right gland, again I only read briefly on it and we were talking about disorders with it as a symptom. The 2 you mentioned do cause this to happen.

Nah, it just happened once. A fluke. I would only be worried of I hallucinated during it though.
No one else has ever had this happen?

No, but I've sleep-walked before (so I've been told).

PS: it could have been part of a dream. I once fell asleep in the car (lots of HW that week), and so my dad told be to get out. I had a short dream that I got out of the car and went into the house... (twice, maybe?) and then my dad finally woke me up for real.

The sleepwalking has usually been something like, I fall asleep, then "wake up" and do something (go somewhere, put something away) before going back to my bed; no of which I remember.

I sleep walk also. Or at least I used too. My best friend is scary. He sleep walks, and talks at the same time. Ive experienced it first hand. Once he tore the covers out from under me, and walked halfway up the steps and looked at me and back upstairs about 6 times. Came back down. And went back to sleep.

And sometimes its really hard to tell whether a dream was real or not. Ive had dreams where ive looked at my alarm clock, and I thought it was a totally different time then it actually was. -_-

Well. I found it it wasn't sleep paralysis. I think they're just really lucid dreams. A similar thing happened last night. I thought I was awake. But I noticed my computer was in a totally different spot. Lucid dreams aren't that cool.

I have the opposite... instead of an inability to move, I kick my covers off and don't sleep too well.

Oh, and my parents have told me that they have hear me talking in my sleep and grinding my teeth before. (but, 1/2 of my family talks in their sleep. Talking in sleep= "nyuuurughhh" or just random sounds)

Result: my cat doesn't want to sleep with me anymore Sad

You Know DBC its so strange how weird this conversation is for me.

I have lucid Dreaming episodes constantly, practically on a nightly basis. Its been a part of my life since I could remember.

Also I have TMJ (Temporal Mandibular Joint Syndrome) which I got from severe clenching of the teeth during sleep because of the lucid dreaming.

In any event the dreaming I'm surprised it just showed up like that for you I was under the impression you either have it or you don't but apparently you can develop it as well from what your saying it, Ive never actually met another person in real life that has lucid dreams, in fact for my entire childhood and teenage life I actually hid this fact from everyone because I thought I was insane from seeing things constantly that where not there and that everyone else would think I was insane as well.

So sense you cant get rid of the Lucid dreaming and you obviously will be developing a case of TMJ over the course of your lifetime here are some tips for ya:

1.) Screw the Mouth Guard that the docs tell you to use, they make you feel like a retard, Id rather just deal with the pain on my own.

2.) taking serotonin pills to help you sleep will induce Lucid Episodes More often

3.) Waking up to a talking turtle that wants to have a little conversation is normal do not scream.

4.) Waking up paralyzed is normal, during lucid dreaming your mind is awake and your body is asleep, when you finally do wake up your body is slow to react because your dream world is so much like your real life world that it mistakes the two often.

5.) You can lucid dream while you are awake during the day if you allow yourself to wander off.

6.) Prepare for alot of pain from TMJ. Its a highly painful Syndrome that costs alot of money to properly fix. Personally I have an extremely high pain threshold so it does not particularly bother me any more then a needle from a doctor would, however There are times even for me when it is unbearable.

7.) TMJ Can cause you to wake up with Lock Jaw. Be careful of this seriously it sucks alot. If you get lock jaw do not attempt to fix it on your own you will screw up your jaw for life. A doctor will basically Pull your jaw straight out from your face then reattach it properly. The procedure sucks a shit ton and hurts tremendously. Theirs no way to avoid it from happening it just sometimes happen from the way you sleep on it.

8.) If you want to develop the lucid dreaming attempt to induce it while you are awake right before you go to bed. Set a setting of absolute silence and pitch black so that not even a alarm clock light is on in your room, so that absolutely nothing can distract you. Then conjure up imagery while you are awake laying in bed waiting to sleep. Think about whatever it is that comes to mind and try to picture it everything. Then as you get good at creating imagery on demand start to focus in on the details of that imagery, imagine how many strands of hair the person has and truly focus on it and Im sure you will be pleasantly surprised by what you find down that path.

9.) After about 20 years of lucid dreaming on a practically nightly basis I have learned to control many aspects of it, I can sometimes conjure picture perfect imagery of whatever I so choose be it page 183 of Micheal Crichton's Newest book or what the horizon looked like at the one second that i was at the top of the superman roller coaster and right before I went over the hill I looked out for just a fraction of a second and got a freeze frame of what the horizon looked like etched into my brain.

10.) While I am not asleep I constantly watch for things that I know are not there to avoid incidents. For example sometimes While I am driving my car I may look ahead of me randomly and suddenly there's a red light telling me to stop just dangling over the car in front of me. The only issue of course is that Id be on the highway or something and my mind was making the whole scenario up tricking me. There are tell tale signs of this of course, while the image itself may be picture perfect watch for things like the image swaying with your eye movement or purple light as I have come to know it is surrounding everything around the image.

I bet theirs more I should tell you but i cant think of anything right now. Oh From the above it may sound like Lucid dreaming is a curse. Believe me when I tell you that you have a gift there, its a special something that no one else you know has. Its an extremely stressful gift that causes constant over exhaustion for sure and you will never truly be able to have complete control over it. However it provides insights into perspectives on life that you would never imagine before. Brainwashing after all is nothing but images being force programmed into your brain while you are awake. Lucid dreaming has the same influence over you however no one except your subconsciousness is in control of the imagery that appears during your sleep.

I actually don't know if I have been grinding my teeth lately, I know I did about 1 year ago. And my parents haven't said anything about it since then. So I don't think I have, but I think lucid dreams are pretty cool. I can't exactly control them, but when im sleeping I actually know, that im sleeping. I even tried to do stuff in my dream, like fly. But that didn't work. I could change scenery though it was pretty cool. Yeah, my mom also gets lucid dreams, it doesn't seem to be too weird.

Except I had this lucid dream of me in my bed this morning. I could tell I was sleeping. I could even feel that my bed was underneath me. Then this shadowy figure started moving across my walls, and then towards me, and repeating this cycle a few times, this was the dream where my computer was in the wrong spot. It was a scary experience.

Ive never had ANY pain either, I don't think I have TMJ, But I have all the above. Its only recently I have been having continuous lucid dreams though, I used to have them every once in awhile . I have them every few nights, and one week at most I had 3-4 in a row. But this night when I was sleeping, i had lucid dreams every time I went back to bed. I had about 7, some ranging from only a few minutes long. I don't understand how though, I don't think you can enter REM in a few minutes.

ya about the nightmares. Just try to ignore them. They are extremely intense and usually the thing that scares you has no actual fright value by itself so much as the perception that you yourself are in a nightmare that makes you feel afraid. Try to be aware as much as possible without actually waking up.

The tmj I was not diagnosed with until last year with (Im 27) and I didn't even go to the hospital for it I went because I was sick and the doctor pointed it out to me that I have it from some tell tale sign of it that she saw, so it does not surprise me at all that you have feel nothing and probably wont for another decade at least.

I've always wished I had the ability to control my dreams. Not sure about the hallucinations while in the car though...

I have some sort of restless sleep often, so making sleep more pleasant would be... great.

Yeah... My mom has TMJ. Yet she doesn't grind her teeth in her sleep, nor has lucid dream episodes. Shes had a few before, but not like I have. That just ruined the correlation between us, hmm.

It's when you're aware that you're dreaming, you can pretty much call them conscious dreams. Then you can manipulate them, and basically do whatever you want.

Forgot to mention, everything is more real. It isnt anything like a normal dream.

Oh I've had those before. But I usually become concious of the dreaming state halfway through the dream itself. Like i'll be losing the dream somehow (like get thrown in jail for example) and then ill realize that its a dream and start controlling everything. I like those.

Dreams are usually never in my control.

Once I realize that it's a dream, I wake up. I guess it's because, by the time that I'm conscious enough to control my dreams, I'm too conscious to stay asleep. Sad

Lucid Dreaming is like Going from a old 1950's Television Set to a Wide Screen 52" Plasma HDTV.

The main issue is most people wake up, with lucid dreaming you are in such a deep state of sleep that you are conscience within yourself aware that you are asleep and aware that you will wake up in a given time frame, you are as aware as you are during the day, that is not to say you have an attention span to control what is happening. Most lucid dreaming is done passively like every one has except it is vibrant and has depth to it. Some Lucid Dreams are intense and can physically effect you while you sleep causing shortness of breath and physical paralysis.

Tremors, Night Terrors, Intense Vertigo and Displacement. These are all effects of Perceiving nightmares within a Lucid Dream. While Lucid Dreaming may seem like the greatest thing ever the very real threat of psychological damage from traumatic experiences while sleeping exist.
